Okay, so it’s been a bit longer than a month but here we finally settling in our lovely little shop, four weeks on from our grand opening….. What a four weeks it has been! I think it’s safe to say that it still hasn’t quite sunk in yet; in fact, I’m not so sure it ever will – but they do say that when that feeling goes, it’s time to move on.
So what have we been up to in that time? Well, we’ve done what feels like a zillion orders, some stuff just never stays on the shelf (Hello, bamboo toothbrushes!) and we have had a slight re-jig of the shelves, putting beauty on the wall where our proteins and superfoods originally were. The window display has also changed and is looking fiiiiiiine! We plan to order weekly and are listening to what you all want so we can make sure everyone is happy and our shop is nice and full – besides, it feels like Christmas for us every time a new parcel comes in (you’d think we had NO idea what it was haha). Wait until it actually is Christmas…. oh we are going to spoil you!
What has surprised us is how popular the refill system has been, and as a result, we are literally adding to it each week. We absolutely love everyone getting on board with this and spreading the word on how quick and easy it is to re-use your empties. New additions include a Floor Cleaner, Multi-Surface Sanitiser, and a Bathroom Cleaner, plus many more to follow as time goes on.
We ticked off two other things on our list; featuring in the local paper and taking part in a radio interview (believe me, you still get nervous even when you know no-one can see you!) but I think we did alright and managed to get our message across. By the way, does anyone else cringe at the sound of their own voice or is it just me?!
There’s been so many highs so far but also crushing lows – our grant application was rejected which has put a lot of plans on the back burner and means our money worries are far from over – but we’ll get there and hopefully these stresses will soon be a thing of the past. I lost my beautiful, beloved little dog unexpectedly last week and not ashamed to admit that the pain is like no other, but life has to carry on and I’m grateful that I have my family and the business to focus on and keep me distracted. The absolute highlight since opening our doors has, without a doubt, been meeting all of you and hearing your kind words and compliments. There has of course been the odd negative comment where we are pulled down and told that it wont work, it’s destined to fail, we are in the wrong place at the wrong time etc…. and no matter how prepared you think you are for such comments it does still hurt and it does knock your confidence. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I am of the belief that if you haven’t anything nice to say then don’t say it! Fortunately for us, the overall response has been overwhelmingly positive and heartwarming, so this in itself outweighs the ‘Neggy Nellies’ as Emma so fondly calls them!
I know we’ve said it before and we’ll keep saying it – without every bit of support from everyone we wouldn’t be able to continue and wouldn’t have the confidence to build our dream, so from the very bottom of our hearts we thank you. And as always, it’s your shop after all so let us know your ideas and thoughts and we will always do our best to deliver! We want you to feel able to talk to us and ask questions, however big or small. We have lots of exciting things coming up soon as well so keep your eyes peeled and ears open! Oh and that teaser about what’s happening on the 12th September – all will be revealed in the next few days but we just know that you’ll love it as much as we do.
Hope you’ve enjoyed our latest update, we have decided to do more frequent blogs to keep everyone in the loop and share our progress as we go on so you will be (hopefully!) reading the next exciting edition shortly. Plus Emma will be sharing her progress and experience with some of the products she is trialing!
Thanks guys! See you soon 🙂
