Have you ever thought about how much you have spent on disposable menstrual products over the years? We have and it truly frightened us. It’s an awful lot of money for something that is used just once and then thrown away (or a lot of the time, flushed away…eek!).
Menstrual Cups are amazing for many reasons – firstly, one cup has a lifespan of up to TEN years! So once you’ve bought it, you don’t have to worry about stocking up on tampons or pads each month, or whether you’ve run out at that crucial time (we’ve all been there!). These ones are made out of platinum silicone which guarantees a higher quality and longer lifespan than standard silicone, and are latex free, phthalate free, and very importantly, contain no bleaching agents…. ever wondered how they get tampons so white?! Not to mention the tiny cotton fibres that can find themselves remaining even once the tampon has been removed. Standard sanitary towels often contain certain chemical properties which are solely there to pull and draw out the blood, therefore increasing cramping and doing little to relieve pain. These cups can be left in for up to 6 hours and have no risk of leakage which is highly important when you are going about your daily life! They are ultra discreet so only you know you are using it. We live in an era now where disposable and single use items are no good and so we need to use more eco-friendly alternatives where possible.
Now I don’t know about you, but all of that made me feel a little bit sick and led me to hunt down and buy my first cup (which I’m still using) 3 years ago. Yes at first it is a bit fiddly but it doesn’t take long to figure out how to use it and you soon get used to it. My only regret is that I wasn’t aware of the alternatives much sooner but at least I have made the change and it really was the best thing I have done! Many women find it helps to slightly ease the pain too.
